note: This is a port from my private server that runs apache, to Neocities. some information may not be true; keep that in mind.
This page runs ONLY on HTML4. I am saying this once. You heard me, you listen. I don't know if this can run on the Wii, all I know is that this uses only HTML 4.
if you are reading this now, then you are not going crazy. You are viewing this page bare bones, using apache2, lightweight beast.
"But why don't you use html5?"
...HTML5? Wake up buddy, it's 2006, where Opera 9 was released, the Nintendo Wii was launched to the public, and the latest version we have is HTML4, and CSS2. If you thought that HTML5 exists in 2006, ask those HTML Programmers who's still alive in 2006: "do you know anything about HTML5?" and watch as they say NO. The only information existed in 2006 is development.
Nintendo partnered with Opera to make a modified version of Opera 9, With Wii compatible taste on top. Around that time, HTML5 doesn't exist, nor CSS 3, so they used HTML4 and CSS2 instead of HTML5 and CSS3. Wanna know why? THEY DO NOT EXIST. AT ALL. and you may ask:
TWO-THOUSAND FOURTEEN.(2014)"Wait, when did HTML5 Launched then?"
THAT IS WHEN HTML5 WAS NOW A THING. frick HTML5, we're going big with HTML4. LET IT RAIN BABY!!!!
since the big 2025, Opera 9, (that includes the Internet Channel on the Wii as well) barely can run any website. Twitter, YouTube, FaceBook, Instagram, and other websites that you name now uses HTML5, making the Internet Channel lag behind. Since this page only uses HTML4 and CSS2, This is compatible with the old Internet Channel from good ol' Wii.
We don't use nginx. the one running is pure apache web server. fun fact, this one runs pretty well on the wii since it broadcasts on Opera 9's usual communication protocol, HTTP/1.1.
"Why don't you use nginx?"
That is a REALLY good question, nginx isn't a fan of older browsers these days... they use a different protocol than apache, and doesn't let older browsers load. fun fact, apache is an old web server and was widely used all over the world for so much things.
We have HTTPS. it's basically HTTP, but with encryption on top. Opera 9 is old, so it doesn't work on websites that use modern encryption. Since Opera 9 is outdated, (that includes the Internet Channel as well) we already know that it won't work with Modern Encryption. fun fact, modern encryption is the main culprit when it comes to old browsers.
I'm talking to you, HTML Programmers. What's the point in using HTML5 still? Get real with it and use HTML4. WE NEED TO REVIVE OLD BROWSERS! well, not the one in 1995 as that is very outdated and it doesn't run HTML 4... Sorry :P anyways, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? MAKE THE INTERNET CHANNEL WORK ON WEBSITES AGAIN!
